A long walk across Devon and around Cornwall
Walked 143 miles. Completed Devon Coast to Coast. Reached Falmouth.
In May 2017 I set off from home with the aim of walking Coast to Coast from North to South Devon (following the River Tamar from its source to the English Channel) and then around the entire Cornwall Coast Path back home. I estimated the walk to be around 400 miles. I would be walking unsupported and mainly camping along the way.
I failed! My knee started to grumble after the 100 mile mark and following a 20 mile first day on the coast path I knew I was in trouble. Despite nurturing it until Falmouth it became clear that it would not make the distance in one hit. I love walking so in order to prevent permanent damage I made the pragmatic decision to stop there, consoling myself that I might one day complete the remaining path in (more sensible) sections.
I am lucky to have had a great 10 days walking in beautiful English coast and countryside. My GPS recorded tracks can be viewed here.
